Dr. Scott Peters

Scott Peters is an Associate Professor in the Counseling and Guidance program. He is a native of Chicago and earned his B.A. in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University. He then earned both his M.A. in Counseling and Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Peters is both a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor. He maintains a private practice and is a member of the Psychiatric Assessment Team for Methodist Healthcare System. Dr. Peters supervises Licensed Professional Counselor Interns. He has extensive clinical experience working with a wide variety of client and client problems including interpersonal violence, substance abuse and serious mental illness. Dr. Peters has been published on topics such as working with deaf clients, intimate partner violence, and Hispanic adolescent paternity. His research interests include homelessness, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, substance use disorders, psychiatric emergencies.
