Texas A&M University-San Antonio Press Statement (03/26/2019):

Students Vote to Support Entry into Intercollegiate Athletics

In another step in the process to bring intercollegiate athletics to Texas A&M University- San Antonio students voted last week to support a referendum that would initiate student fees to support intercollegiate athletics. The referendum, led by the A&M-SA student Government Association, was held Mar. 18-22, 2019. Of the students who voted, 86 percent voted in favor of instituting the fee.

In addition to the student referendum, there are a number of steps in the process to add intercollegiate athletics to the student experience. Next up is for A&M-SA to obtain approval from the Texas Legislature and the Texas A&M System Board of Regents -- once approved, the student fee would go into effect Fall 2020. If A&M-SA is successful with those efforts, students at the University could enjoy athletic programming as soon as the fall of 2020.

The student fee to support athletics would be $10 per semester hour up to 12 hours, not to exceed $120 for a semester, and it is estimated the fee initially would generate more than $1 million toward athletics funding.
