Women’s Studies Program at TAMU-SA

An Interdisciplinary Minor

Main Office: CEAC Room 348, One University Way, San Antonio, TX 78224 – (210) 784-2201

Unlike other degree plans, Women’s Studies is interdisciplinary, meaning you will take classes in a variety of disciplines. In Women’s Studies classes you will learn about issues pertinent to women and about gendered forces shaping the lives of men and women today – topics not always included in other courses.

The program examines women’s lives historically and globally, women’s experiences, and changing gender roles while acknowledging the intrinsic experiences, contributions, and perspectives of both women and men.

The Women’s Studies faculty includes professors in biology, communications, criminology, English, history, management, political science, psychology, and sociology, giving you a wide range of choices.

A minor in Women’s Studies will document your knowledge of trends and changes in today’s world,  the links between history and the future, and the influences of society on the individual – all skills that will benefit your future career.

A women’s studies minor requires that you take 18 hours in courses with a WMST designation. Courses applied to your major may not be applied to the women’s studies minor. Approximately three women’s studies courses are offered each semester, making completion of the degree possible in as little as two semesters. For more information, contact your academic advisor.
