Chair’s Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Social Sciences at Texas A&M- University-San Antonio! We are delighted that you took the time to visit our site to learn about the many exciting things happening in our department. Our faculty members come from the nation’s best programs to deliver top-quality instruction, mentoring, and research opportunities that will help you reach your academic and professional goals. Programs in our department include criminology and criminal justice, sociology, political science, as well as military science. As of fall 2018, there are 939 students enrolled in our programs.

Our faculty members are committed to student learning and success. Students pursue a variety of different careers following their undergraduate work, including positions with government agencies and in the private sector. In addition, a number of our students have been accepted to Ph.D. and masters programs and have gone on to law school. Core objectives of our department are to:

  • Provide cutting edge academic programs to prepare students to be successful in a rapidly changing and diverse society
  • Help students become leaders in their field and in their community
  • Afford students with internship and research opportunities to enhance their understanding of the social world
