The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences is Dr. Mirley Balasubramanya.
The College of Arts & Sciences is home to Science and Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Arts and Humanities. The College is comprised of the following academic programs: Biology, Chemistry, Criminology, Fine Arts, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Geography, History, Communications, English, Spanish, Water Resources, Women's Studies, and Writing.
Our first Writer-in-Residence is Laurie Ann Guerrero, San Antonio (2014-2016) and State of Texas Poet Laureate (2016).
The College of Arts and Sciences offers thirty-six undergraduate degrees and a Master of Arts in English. Whether a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), or a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) with specific concentration: these degrees prepare our students to excel in an ever changing world. The Arts and Sciences broad curriculum engages student learning to attain and understand in a culturally diverse environment generating possibilities both beyond and from within to challenge and achieve academic excellence.
Our faculty are committed to student academic development and enhancing professional skills in preparation for post-baccalaureate education and employment by providing opportunities for critical thinking, synthesis, and research. The curriculum builds foundational knowledge required for all academic degree programs at the University, emphasizing communication skills, analytical reasoning, and independent thought. Our faculty excel in teaching, scholarship, and service with a global perspective.
