Dear Members of the University Community:

On August 31, Provost Mike O'Brien, and I represented Texas A&M University-San Antonio at the Texas A&M University System's Board of Regents meeting in College Station. Today, I am pleased to report that the Board of Regents voted in approval of our proposed agenda items, and in an ongoing effort of transparency, I wish to share with you these successes for our University.

Included in the approval from this Board of Regents meeting were:

  • Official appointment of Dr. Mike O'Brien as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs
  • Tenure awarded to Dr. Mike O'Brien, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs
  • Tenure awarded to Dr. Marvin Lutnesky, chair for the Department of Science and Mathematics
  • Emeritus designation for Dr. Brent Snow, senior associate to the president
  • Review of the following new degree program proposals:
    • Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health
    • Bachelor of Science in Child Development
    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering

These degree programs will be now be submitted to the Texas Higher Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission and Colleges (SACSCOC) for additional review. If approved, the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health and Bachelor of Science in Child Development are scheduled for implementation in fall 2017, and the Bachelor of Science in Engineering will be scheduled for implementation in fall 2018.

In addition, Greg Garcia was awarded with a resolution from the Board of Regents for his tenure with the Texas A&M University System.

I hope you'll join me in the celebration of these additions for A&M-San Antonio. Our best days are ahead!

Warm Regards,
