Dear Members of the A&M-SA Community:
With our Latinx Heritage Month having wrapped up last Wednesday, I wanted to take a moment to thank our entire University community for an inspiring and educational month of activities. Whether you helped plan or host an event, presented or performed, or simply attended activities as a spectator, thank you for playing a part in this important celebration. I trust you came away from the experience with a deeper understanding of, and a greater appreciation for, the Latinx culture. I've visited with a number of people from the broader San Antonio community who attended one or more of the events, and they all expressed their appreciation for being included in the celebration.
Hosting such a major undertaking takes a village... truly! I'd like to thank Dr. Durant Frantzen and Latinx Heritage Month Planning Committee members: Drs. Adrianna Santos, Philis Barragan-Goetz, Jennifer Correa, Daniel Delgado, Francis Galan and Alicia Reyes-Barrientez. Special thanks also go to Cheryl LeGras and her team, as well as Dr. Edwin Blanton and his Mays Center staff for their assistance with this effort. The President's Commission on Equity also played a valuable supporting role.
As a public university with deep ties to the communities it serves, A&M-SA is enriched by the many cultures represented by our faculty, staff and students, as well as our broader community. The enthusiasm for recent events like Latinx Heritage Month and the Fall Fest celebration, as well as for the upcoming Fall Diversity Forum on Nov. 5 and Lights of Esperanza on Nov. 27, is a sign of a thriving institutional culture that values diversity, equity and inclusion. I am proud of that culture and want to thank each of you for the contributions you make to it every day.
