Welcome to the fall 2018 semester

Dear Members of the A&M-SA Community:

What a difference a year makes! As we embark upon the fall 2018 semester, I cannot help but think back on the ominous conditions we were facing this time last year.

Hurricane Harvey, you might recall, was gathering momentum on its way to blasting the Texas coast just east of Rockport. The people of Texas bounced back with great strength and resiliency. As we start the semester, I recognize and appreciate that same grit and determination in our University community.

A&M-SA is truly On a Mission to Build the Future, and this video should give you a sense of what that means to different members of our community.

We have had an extraordinary 10 days of pre-semester events, and I invite you to several activities this academic year.

  • We are hosting an event on August 29 to announce a new partnership with Facebook.
  • We have an amazing line-up of activities for our Latinx Heritage Month, which will run from September 18 to October 11.
  • The University artwork collection has a refreshed curation; you will find a number of new pieces, and existing pieces have moved to new locations. On September 24, we will have an Art Walk showcase, and you'll be able to stroll around campus, meet the artists, admire the many paintings and learn more about them.
  • The following day, on September 25, we will host the grand opening of our new Science and Technology Building.

In addition, our core value of Collaboration has never been more apparent than in the myriad events and activities we hosted during the past eight months, showcased in this video -- a flashback from the spring and summer.

I hope these wonderful memories will inspire you as the rhythm of the academic year sets in! I look forward to a great fall semester. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me anytime at S.H.A.R.E. via email or social media.
