Mission

The Jaguar Leadership Institute (JLI) offers students the opportunity to nurture their leadership skills through a series of workshops and activities. The program is designed to enhance the students’ ability to pave a path to personal, academic and professional success. Students have the opportunity to develop skills through the following opportunities; membership in the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), or attend one of workshop offerings. No prior leadership experience is needed to participate in the programs.

                                                                              


Our leadership program consists of three tiers; Jaguar Leadership Institute, National Society of Leadership and Success & A-la-Carte workshops, these tiers may be taken separately or cumulative with each other. We present a wide array of options for students to choose from to help facilitate personal development and growth.

Leadership workshops

JLI on JagSync 

These workshops will be held on campus throughout the academic year. Locations and times will be posted in JagSync. 

The Student Leadership Challenge® - is about how student leaders mobilize others to want to get extraordinary things done. It’s about the practices leaders use to transform values into actions, visions into realities, obstacles into innovations, individuality into collaboration, and risks into rewards. 

CliftonStrengths® - an online assessment (formerly StrengthQuest) that will identify the student’s top 5 strengths and gives them suggestions as to how they can use and improve those strengths. CliftonStrengths has helped more than 13 million people discover their talents.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective College Students - a high-impact student success course that benefits and sustains students in college and beyond. The non-credit hybrid course will be led by instructors Cheryl Le Gras and Heather Olague scheduled at A&M-SA.

Meeting Advantage™ - Teaches how to run effective meetings by frontloading before the meeting, focusing productively during the meeting, and following through successfully after the meeting. Whether it’s managing a large project across teams, improving business communication, or addressing difficult situations, employees gain the skills to increase accountability and productivity.

Presentation Advantage® - The most experienced professionals can lack good presentation skills. Presenters fail to prepare, freeze in front of people, have poorly organized thoughts, and lack the confidence to persuade an inattentive audience. Participants learn the mindsets, skillsets and toolsets of effective presenters, combined with the latest neuroscience to better inform, influence, and persuade others in today’s knowledge-based world.

Writing Advantage® - Teaches how to set quality writing standards that help your employees increase productivity, resolve issues, avoid errors, and heighten credibility. Participants learn a four-step process to create writing that cuts through the clutter. They learn how to write faster with more clarity, and gain skills for revising and fine-tuning every kind of document.

Leadership Foundations - is designed to prepare high-potential, non-leader employees a foundation of skills that will prepare them to take on expanded roles and responsibilities in the future. This approach not only “future proofs” against a mass exit of experienced leadership, but it also gives organizations the ability to retain vital institutional knowledge, as well as attract and retain high-potential employees. This introduces leaders to the 4 Imperatives of Great Leaders.

Project Management Essentials for the Unofficial Project Manager™ - This session will help participant’s consistently complete projects successfully. Project Management Essentials for the Unofficial Project Manager is designed for anyone who needs to lead projects but is not a professional project manager. Participants will learn to implement a disciplined process to execute projects and to master informal authority to inspire the team.

Introduction to Project Manager Essentials - This course encourages attendees to focus on their own current projects for a truly hands-on experience. The work session is ideal for those with no previous project management training, as well as those who are taking on an increasing number of project-oriented assignments.

Millennials@Work - This program is designed to help new, younger workers adjust to the world of work. The solution helps Millennials understand generational differences and how to leverage their strengths and capabilities in today’s work environment. It also helps them see what others need to communicate effectively to bridge generational gaps using seven important skills.

This instructor-led course delivers a powerful blended learning experience designed to:

-Enhance student engagement

  • Rising Leaders Program- This opportunity is promised to be an enlightening, productive, and transformational experience that will exceed your expectations. This program will be centered on Franklin Coveys’ Project Management Essentials for the Unofficial Project Manager, Presentation Advantage®, Meeting Advantage™ & Writing Advantage®.

Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction. NSLS is an organization that helps students discover and achieve their goals. The local chapter also serves as a powerful force of good in the greater community by encouraging and organizing action to better the world.

Aside from the experience and insight gained, students will have the opportunity to increase self-confidence, improve communication skills, become a college ambassador, emerge as a great student leader, and have fun doing it all!
