T. Marie Tipps


Ms. Tipps is the current lab manager and adjunct faculty member at A&M-SA. She currently facilitates lab classes, teaches the summer Genetics lab, and heads up the implementation of laboratory safety.  She completed both a BS in Biology in 2010 and MS in Biology in 2012 at Angelo State University. For the last 5 years, she has been working with bats in some form or another. Previous experiences include bat surveys of Big Bend National Park in west Texas and field work in Costa Rica and Panama. The focus of her thesis was on “Molecular and Morphological variation in Townsend’s big-eared bat (Corynorhinus townsendii) in West Texas.”  Other work on bats that she has been a part of includes work with the Texas Department of State Health Services in identifying bats with rabies and on the systematics of the family of free-tailed bats, Molossidae. She also completed an internship with EcoHealth Alliance concerning coronaviruses in bat species in the Fall of 2012. Not only does she help with lab safety and management, but helps with field classes such as Mammalogy and Ecology. She is currently working with Dr. Corinna Ross on coordinating different mammalogy-related research projects.
