The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is the recognized regional accrediting body in the eleven U.S. Southern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia) and in Latin America for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees. To maintain our SACSCOC accreditation, institutions must comply with the standards and requirements in The Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement and with the Commission’s policies and procedures.

Because A&M-San Antonio received initial accreditation in 2014, the institution will be going through the reaffirmation of accreditation process after just five years, instead of the usual ten. A&M-San Antonio’s first reaffirmation of accreditation will take place during the 2018-2019 academic year.  Key events related to reaffirmation included:

  1. Submission of a Compliance Certification demonstrating compliance with SACSCOC core requirements, comprehensive standards, and federal regulations, to be submitted in September 2018,
  2. An off-site review of the Compliance Certification during Fall 2018,
  3. Submission of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that includes a proposal for a campus-wide project that will enhance student learning in January 2019, and
  4. An on-campus visit from a reaffirmation committee from March 4-6, 2019.

The Off-Site Reaffirmation Committee will determine A&M-San Antonio’s initial compliance with all standards.  As a result, A&M-San Antonio may be required to write a focused report addressing any concerns raised during the off-site review.

The On-Site Reaffirmation Committee will evaluate the QEP proposal, review any areas of non-compliance identified by the Off-Site Committee, and review standards and documentation associated with the federal requirements. The On-Site Reaffirmation Committee will compete a reaffirmation report, which will then be submitted to SACSCOC for a final determination of compliance and reaffirmation.

All members of the off-site and on-site teams, which consist of faculty and staff members from other SACSCOC accredited institutions, will be from institutions that are similar in size and scope to A&M-San Antonio. However, all of the committee members (both on-site and off-site) will be from institutions outside the state of Texas.

A&M-San Antonio will be notified of their reaffirmation status following the SACSCOC Board of Trustees meeting in December 2019.
