Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Science

The Department of Computational, Engineering, and Mathematical Sciences at Texas A&M University-San Antonio strives to provide a rich educational experience for students interested in computing, cybersecurity, engineering technology, and mathematics. We offer bachelor’s degree programs in these disciplines as also support courses in physics for STEM majors. We also offer Master's degree programs in Computer Science and Cybersecurity.

Our students enjoy learning in person and in online/hybrid courses with small class sizes, and state-of-the-art technology, in high-tech classrooms while enjoying the ambiance of a campus built in contemporary Mudéjar style.  We emphasize hands-on experiential learning and critical thinking, and the participation of students in research under our faculty’s mentorship.

Our faculty research interests are many:
  • Computer Science and Cybersecurity: Privacy-preserving AI, applied cryptography, natural language processing (NLP), machine learning, deep learning / deep neural network, computer vision, medical imaging, astrophysics imagery analysis, remote sensing, cloud computing, secure software engineering, computing education,
  • Mathematics: Nonlocal problems, peridynamics, numerical solutions to partial differential equations, mathematical models of biological soft tissues, Sobolev function spaces, complex analysis, geometry of manifolds, quadratic and Hermitian forms/lattices and applications to lattice-based cryptography, and Hamilton-Jacobi theory.

We strive to provide our students with leadership skills and values to prepare them for the workplace, for advanced study and research, and for an ever-changing world. Experiential learning in laboratories and internships in local businesses, industry, and the government lay the pathway for rewarding careers in STEM areas. A few graduate assistantships and on-campus job opportunities are available.
