Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to attend Texas A&M University–San Antonio?
Your cost depends on your residency, degree program, enrollment and living arrangements. The University’s Cost of Attendance page provides annual estimates that include tuition and fees, housing, food, books, transportation and personal expenses. These estimates help you plan beyond your University bill.
What types of financial aid are available?
Eligible A&M–San Antonio students may receive grants, scholarships, student loans and work-study opportunities. Each type of assistance has its own eligibility requirements. Visit Types of Aid to explore available options.
How do I apply for financial aid?
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year you plan to attend. Include A&M–San Antonio’s federal school code, 042485, so the University receives your information. Follow the Applying for Aid instructions and respond to any requests for additional documents.
Do I need to be admitted before applying for financial aid?
No. You can submit your financial aid application before receiving an admission decision. However, you must be admitted and meet enrollment and other eligibility requirements to receive aid. Begin with the financial aid application instructions.
Do I need to apply for financial aid every year?
Yes. You must submit a FAFSA for each academic year you want to receive federal student aid. Also review scholarship renewal requirements and respond to any additional requests from the University. Receiving assistance one year does not automatically guarantee the same assistance the following year.
When should I apply for financial aid and scholarships?
Apply as early as possible for your intended academic year. Priority deadlines may differ for first-year students, transfer students and individual scholarships, and some funding is limited. Review the deadlines on the Paying for College and Scholarships pages, and confirm the applicable year and term with Financial Aid.
How do I apply for scholarships at A&M–San Antonio?
Use the University’s AwardSpring scholarship portal to create your scholarship profile, find matching opportunities and submit applications. The portal is available to current students and incoming students with the required University login credentials. Visit the Scholarships page for instructions and deadlines.
What is Jaguar Promise, and what does it cover?
Jaguar Promise helps eligible undergraduate students cover tuition, fees and books. It is a last-dollar program, meaning it addresses an eligible remaining funding gap after other applicable aid and scholarships are applied, excluding loans. Eligibility and continued participation depend on program requirements and available funding. Review the Jaguar Promise requirements.
How can I check my financial aid status?
Log in to JagWire to check your financial aid and document status. Monitor your University email for requests that require action. Contact the financial aid team if you need help understanding an outstanding requirement.
What does it mean if I am selected for financial aid verification?
Verification confirms information reported on your FAFSA. If selected, you will receive instructions identifying the documents you need to submit. Complete all requested items promptly because required verification must be completed before aid can be disbursed. Review the Applying for Aid resources.
What if my family’s financial circumstances have changed?
Contact Financial Aid if your FAFSA no longer reflects your family’s ability to pay because of circumstances such as job loss, reduced income or significant medical expenses. You may qualify for a Special Circumstance Request review. Additional aid is not guaranteed. Visit the Special Circumstances page for instructions.
