Graduate Merit Scholarship

Graduate Merit Scholarships provide $1,000 to master’s students and make them eligible for in-state tuition in their first year for a savings of $10,000.

These scholarships can be combined with graduate assistantships or departmental scholarships to create an appealing financial aid package for exceptional applicants. Graduate Need Based Scholarships are also available.

The Good Neighbor Scholarship (GNS)

The Good Neighbor Scholarship (GNS) encourages academically talented students from eligible countries in the Western Hemisphere (excluding Cuba and the U.S.) to study in Texas, strengthening ties between Texas and their home countries.

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be native-born citizens of an eligible country, plan to return home after studies, have lived in the Western Hemisphere for 5+ years, and meet academic requirements (GPA 2.0+ undergrad / 3.0+ graduate). They cannot be dual U.S. citizens, must be in good academic standing, and need institutional recommendation.

  • Award: Selected students receive a 12-month tuition exemption (statutory tuition only) for courses that qualify for state funding. Applications and recommendations are required annually, and final selection is made by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

  • Deadline: All required materials must be submitted by February 15 each year.

Hagan International Scholarship

The Hagan International Scholarship supports high-achieving international students with financial need who plan to begin their first graduate program in the U.S. 

  • Eligibility: Applicants must be non-U.S. citizens, under 24 years old, and entering their first graduate program. Must have earned (or will earn) a bachelor’s degree from a non-U.S. institution, be accepted into a U.S. university, and demonstrate English proficiency. Additional requirements include submitting academic records, a financial statement, a graduation plan approved by a U.S. institution, and completing 240 hours of paid work prior to the program start.

  • Award: Recipients may receive up to $7,500 per semester (up to $30,000 total), plus an additional $2,000 for essential expenses. The scholarship also includes access to a life-skills workshop designed to support student success beyond the classroom.

  • ScholarshipUniverse is open for currently enrolled A&M-SA students and admitted prospective students who have JagWire login credentials.

2. Explore scholarship opportunities through your academic or athletic programs, or student organizations. Alternatively, you can search online for additional scholarships.
