Get Game Tickets Study History at Texas A&M San Antonio
The history major offers courses covering a wide array of regions and time periods. Students will develop as readers and communicators of history, conducting original research and presenting their work before campus and public audiences.
History majors have the opportunity to study with accomplished scholars and award-winning teachers. The History program offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees in History and History with Secondary Teaching Certification. Undergraduate students can also minor in History. Our majors have gone on to attend graduate programs in History, Law, International Relations, Library Science, Public History, and other fields. Many of our graduates are also teaching in public and private schools in the San Antonio area. During their time of study, students can also participate in History Club and become members of our campus chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honors Society.
History Mission Statement
Our program's mission is to provide students with a broad knowledge of the past and an appreciation of the complexities of the contemporary world. The study of History equips students with the necessary skills for success in a wide range of careers in education, public history, social service, law, government, and business. Students receive training in the collection, analysis, and evaluation of information, critical thinking, and oral and written communication.

Student Organizations
History Club
Founded in September 2008, the History Club at A&M-SA has as its mission the promotion of historical knowledge among the campus community and broader public. Since 2012, the History Club has been affiliated with the Walter Prescott Webb Society of the Texas State Historical Association which unites student history clubs across college and university campuses in Texas.
The History Club has brought speakers to campus, participated in campus activities such as Fall Fest, traveled to local historic sites, and conducted service activities such as a school supply drive for a local elementary school.

Phi Alpha Theta
In April 2012, A&M-SA held its inaugural induction ceremony for the campus chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honors Society. The campus chapter has brought several speakers to campus and plans to continue to recruit new members. The membership requirements for Phi Alpha Theta include a 3.0 or higher overall GPA, a 3.1 or higher GPA within history courses, and completion of twelve hours of history credits, only three of which may be transfer, online or AP credits. Members of Phi Alpha Theta do not have to be history majors.
