Faculty Highlights

The Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program at Texas A&M University-San Antonio is led by nationally and internationally recognized faculty with extensive experience in autism, developmental disabilities, and evidence-based intervention across school, home, clinic, and community settings.

Dr. Berenice de la Cruz brings more than 20 years of experience supporting individuals with autism and developmental disabilities. She serves as the inaugural Program Coordinator for the ABA undergraduate and graduate programs launched in Fall 2022. She has held leadership roles in practice, advocacy, and professional organizations at the state, national, and international levels. Her work focuses on advocacy, ethics, and culturally responsive ABA practices, and she leads interdisciplinary, federally funded research initiatives, including projects exploring AI-supported communication and supports for students with traumatic brain injury.

Dr. Sanikan Wattanawongwan brings international clinical and academic experience in the United States and Thailand. She leads grant-funded initiatives supporting families and caregivers of individuals with autism, including communication-focused coaching programs. Her research emphasizes augmentative and alternative communication, telehealth interventions, and caregiver-implemented strategies, contributing to widely published evidence-based practices in autism intervention.

Together, faculty mentor students through applied research, community partnerships, and hands-on training that emphasizes advocacy, ethics, and practical skill development. The ABA program prepares students to deliver effective, evidence-based support.
