Family Orientation

Family Orientation

Families of students who are planning on attending Texas A&M University-San Antonio can join us for Family Orientation on-campus. At A&M-SA, we define family as any of the following: parents, guardians, siblings, children, significant others, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandparents, friends and anyone else defined as family or a support system in a Jaguar’s life. Family members can choose the same orientation date as their student or a different orientation date from their student.

Can I attend?

Any family member of an admitted student who is interested in learning more about the university's culture, student support services, and traditions can attend Family Orientation.

Why should I attend?

Family Orientation is a one day program that will provide families with vital resources and information to support their Jaguar at A&M-SA. Check in for students and families begins at 8:00AM and closes at 9:00AM. Students and families can attend the following activities together until about 9:15AM: Check In and Information Fair, Entertainment, and Welcome to Jaguar Country. After this, students and families will be separated as each have their own vital information to learn during Orientation. Family members will attend the following sessions until about 3:30PM: Orientation Kickoff, Academic Resource Panel, Chat with Dean of Students, Academic Advising, Breakout Session 1, Lunch (no charge), Navigating the Cost of Paying for College, Family Engagement Overview, Recap and Reminders, and Breakout Session 2. Once Breakout Session 2 has concluded, families may join their Jag. Students could be in Class Registration, their own personalized Navigating the Cost of Paying for College session, or they could be finishing up their day already.

Should I bring anything?

Despite the Texas summer heat, we suggest bringing a light jacket as we will be in the chilly A&M-SA Auditorium for most of the day. We won't move locations too much, but breakfast and lunch sessions are not in the Auditorium so comfortable shoes are suggested-especially if you want to go on a campus or housing tour. If you bring a little one along, feel free to pack their favorite toys and activities to keep them entertained. We will provide some light snacks, water, and a free buffed lunch but don't hesitate to bring extra snacks and drinks for the long day. We will provide a pen and sticky note pad for note taking.
