About the Master of Science in Cyber Security Program

The Master of Science in Cyber Security program integrates knowledge and skills from cybersecurity with data science and software engineering. It features an interdisciplinary curriculum with areas related to cybersecurity, such as data analytics, software engineering, and computer forensics. The program meets demands for cybersecurity at the state/national levels.

Application Instructions

  1. Complete the GradCAS application
  2. Submit application fee ($49 for domestic; $69 for international)
  3. Submit the following required documents:
    • Official e-transcripts from all US institutions attended are to be sent to GradCAS through their online order portal. If your institution does not have official e-transcripts available, they can be mailed to the GradCAS processing center.

  4. Personal statement outlining the reason for applying for this graduate degree, career goals, and research interests (1-2 pages)
  5. Letter of intent (1 page)
  6. Curriculum Vitae (preferred) or résumé
  7. Supplemental Information Form:
    1. We strongly encourage contacting potential faculty mentor(s) prior to applying to the program to ensure sufficient space in faculty labs and compatibility of research interests. Please select up to three faculty members in ranking order of priority.
    2. Thesis Track Applicants: This form will also be used to indicate if they would like to be considered for a Graduate Assistantship.

Prerequisites

  • 3.0 composite GPA from upper-division Math or Computer Science classes

Conditional Admittance

  • Below 3.0 Composite GPA but above 2.5

The Department has the right to examine students prerequisites, accept equivalent hours, or require additional work.

*Students with undergraduate degrees in fields other than Computer Science or Cybersecurity, or those who don't meet the minimum GPA requirement, are encouraged to apply. Students with programming experience in mathematical and physical sciences or engineering are also encouraged to apply.

Scholarships

Texas A&M University-San Antonio offers Graduate Merit Scholarships to new master's students. These scholarships provide $1,000 for the first academic year and make recipients eligible for in-state tuition. Students can combine these Graduate Merit Scholarships with departmental scholarships or graduate assistantships for additional financial support.
