Master of Education in Special Education

A Master of Education in Special Education at Texas A&M University-San Antonio offers a broad understanding of the theoretical and practical constructs that support practices for individuals with disabilities. The degree emphasis is on the practical application of knowledge gained while encouraging current research analysis. The program can be completed in-person or fully online.

Educators with a background in special education, education, child growth and development, or curriculum and instruction will find value in this program, and can focus their studies through concentrations in Instructional Specialist, Autism/Emotional Behavior Disorder, and Assessment Focus/Educational Diagnostician.

Prerequisites

  • 2.6 cumulative GPA (or 3.0 last 60 hrs)
  • Background in: Special Education, Education, Child Growth and Development, Curriculum and Instruction
  • Educational Diagnostician concentration requires 3 years of teaching experience in EC-12.
The Department has the right to examine students’ prerequisites, accept equivalent hours, or require additional work.

*Students falling below the GPA minimum are encouraged to apply. Students are evaluated holistically based on several criteria.
