Dear Members of the University Community,

The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced unexpected changes for all of us and led to completely reimagining the rest of the spring 2020 semester. Each and every department across the institution has undergone rapid changes to ensure that the critical work of the university will continue in this new environment. By now, you have all worked with your managers to identify flexible ways in which to perform your essential responsibilities and to ensure that students can continue making academic progress. Your flexibility, hard work and dedication during this time of transition are very much appreciated.

As you are likely aware, earlier this evening, the City of San Antonio and Bexar County announced coordinated “Stay Home, Work Safe” orders intended to limit activity and slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. As a public university that is still in academic operation, A&M-San Antonio is identified as an exempted business in each of these orders, meaning that we are permitted to remain open and operational.

However, because of the proactive efforts of the Risk Management Group and your advanced collective preparations, A&M-San Antonio is prepared to operate our campus activities consistent with the new “Stay Home, Work Safe” measures. We will transition to “essential personnel only” (as determined by management) for on-campus work, effective at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2020. The personnel who continue to work on campus will practice social distancing and will benefit from our enhanced custodial and disinfecting measures. You will hear directly from your supervisor regarding this transition.

I appreciate your efforts to ensure the university can achieve its primary mission to continue instruction and to support students in their academic endeavors. Please direct any questions about your departmental operations or activities to your immediate supervisor or department chair.

We will continue to maintain the A&M-San Antonio’s COVID-19 website with the most current information and to communicate with you via email and through campus leadership. I sincerely appreciate your flexibility and resolve during this challenging time.

I look forward to seeing you again on campus.  Stay safe and be healthy.
