The community health program engages students’ desire to improve lives, transform communities, and make a difference.

Undergraduate

At Texas A&M University – San Antonio, we offer a Bachelor of Science in Community Health. Undergraduate students can also minor in community health. Our classes cover public health fundamentals and subfields such as epidemiology, environmental health, health education and promotion, emergency management, health policy, risk communication, health equity, chronic illnesses, communicable diseases, health writing, and more. Required courses in the biological sciences complement our program offerings.

Students in community health come to appreciate how individual and population health relate to social, political, economic, physical and natural worlds. They understand public health as a science-based, evidence-backed discipline that also values community-held knowledge and lived experience. From their work in the classroom and out in the community, students acquire skills in inquiry and analysis, written and oral communication, quantitative reasoning, partnership-building, and health advocacy.

Students who graduate with a B.S. degree in community health are prepared for graduate and professional schools, as well as health-related careers in government, non-profits, and the private sector.
