About the Bachelor of Arts in English - Literature Program

We offer literature courses focused on specific traditions and periods, as well as courses in multiethnic literature and other genres, such as comic books and film. Students can also take courses in creative writing, as well as other classes that emphasize the composition of texts. Across these various courses, students encounter literature from a multidisciplinary perspective. Students learn about literary history and experience how writing, narrative, and meaning-making change over time, and how they express themselves in different contexts.

Career Opportunities

English majors with a literature concentration often pursue graduate study (Master’s as well as law degrees) and go on to a wide range of professions, including: publishing and editing, teaching (secondary and higher education), non-profit sector, marketing / advertising, professional writing, and creative professions.

Faculty Highlights

Our faculty members are dedicated teachers who work closely with students to ensure success. English faculty are also prominent scholars, producing books on diverse subjects including literature and the abolitionist movement, African-American literature, superhero comic books, Chicana literature, Shakespeare adaptations, and more. Our program is also home to the Borderlands Shakespeare Colectiva, a community of scholars and artists interested in appropriations of Shakespeare’s plays by Latin authors.
