Bachelor of Science in Biology with Teacher Certification Program

The Biology with Teacher Certification program at Texas A&M University–San Antonio prepares students to become highly qualified secondary biology teachers by combining a rigorous science curriculum with professional educator preparation coursework. Students complete the full biology major—including Genetics, Ecology, and Animal or Cellular Physiology—alongside teacher certification courses in pedagogy, classroom management, content-area literacy, and clinical teaching. Completion of this degree requires admission to the Educator Preparation Program (EPP) and leads to eligibility for Texas teacher certification. Graduates are equipped to teach and prepare the next generation of scientists in middle and high school classrooms across Texas and beyond.

Faculty Highlights

Our faculty are committed to undergraduate mentorship and bring both active research backgrounds and real-world classroom experience to their teaching. Students have opportunities to observe and practice teaching in local school settings through clinical field experiences prior to their student teaching semester. Through integrated lecture and laboratory coursework, students develop the content knowledge and hands-on science skills needed to lead their own classrooms with confidence. This combination of strong science preparation and practical teaching experience prepares graduates for the demands of the classroom.
