What is Early College High School?

Early College High School

Early College High School (ECHS) gives students the opportunity to begin earning college credit while completing their high school education. Through Texas A&M University-San Antonio's ECHS partnerships, students can work toward earning up to 60 college credit hours at no cost to their families.

ECHS students experience college-level coursework while still receiving the support of their high school and Texas A&M-San Antonio. The goal is to help students build confidence, become familiar with the college environment, and create a strong foundation for their future.

ECHS Experience at A&M-SA

As an ECHS student, you are both a high school student and a college student. Depending on your program and grade level, you may take courses at your high school, on the Texas A&M-San Antonio campus, or through other approved course formats.

Students also have the opportunity to become familiar with university expectations, resources, and services before graduating from high school.

Participation in Early College High School begins through the student's high school. Students and families interested in an ECHS program should contact their school directly for information about eligibility, enrollment, and available opportunities.

Supporting Students Beyond High School

Our team works closely with our ECHS partners to support students throughout their college experience and help prepare them for the transition beyond high school. We connect students and school partners with university resources, information, and support as students progress through their college coursework.

A select number of eligible ECHS graduates who continue their education at Texas A&M University-San Antonio may have the opportunity to receive additional support through the Greater Texas Foundation Scholars Program. Learn more about Greater Texas Foundation →
