Guidelines on Isolation and Quarantine
For those testing positive for COVID-19:
If you have tested positive for COVID-19 at any testing provider or by using a home test kit, the following procedures must be followed regardless of whether you have been vaccinated or received a booster:
- Isolate and remain off campus for a minimum of 5 days, beginning from the date of the confirmed positive test result. Your test date is considered your Day 0. For example, if you tested positive on May 1 (Day 0), you will be eligible to return to campus on May 7 (Day 6) if the below conditions have been met.
- You have not had a fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or greater) in the last 24-hours (Day 5 and Day 6),
- You are not taking fever-reducing medication to manage a fever,
- If you had COVID-19 symptoms, they have improved, and
- If it is Day 6 – Day 10 of your isolation timeline, you agree to wear a well-fitting face mask while on campus for Days 6 – 10.
- You are asked to isolate off campus for the entire 10 days if:
- Symptoms have not improved, and/or
- You are unwilling to voluntarily wear a well-fitting face mask at all times while on campus for the duration of the 10-day isolation timeline.
- Complete/submit the Return-to-Campus Questionnaire. Once the COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Questionnaire is submitted, you will receive an automated email indicating whether they are “approved” or “not approved” to be on campus for that day. The COVID-19 Return-to-Campus Questionnaire contains the information to determine the first potential day-one may return to campus provided they meet the return-to-campus criteria. If student credentials were used to access the form, then the student’s respective professors will also receive a copy of the email indicating whether the student is approved to be on campus for the day. If employee credentials are used to access the form, then the employee’s respective supervisor will also receive a copy of the email indicating whether or not the employee is approved to be on campus for the day. For those students that are also employees, you will need to complete the form twice (first time logging on using your student credentials and the second time logging on using your employee credentials).
If you have been exposed to COVID-19, the following procedures must be followed:
- You are eligible to return to campus on the day of your exposure provided you meet the below criteria:
-
- You do not have a fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or greater),
- You are not taking fever-reducing medication to manage a fever,
- You are not exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, and
- You agree to wear a well-fitting face mask while on campus for the duration of the 10-Day quarantine timeline.
- It is preferred that the quarantine period off campus be extended to 10 days if:
- You are unwilling to voluntarily wear a well-fitting face mask at all times while on campus for the duration of the 10-day quarantine timeline.
Knowing your COVID-19 status can prevent you from spreading the virus to those around you by taking the necessary precaution of isolating or quarantining when appropriate.
Recommendation to Test Yourself If... | Timing of when to Test... |
You have any COVID-19 Symptoms | Immediately |
You had close contact with someone with COVID-19. Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of an individual positive for COVID-19 for an accumulated time of 15 minutes or greater over a 24-hour time period. |
At least 5 days after your exposure date. If your initial test result is negative for COVID-19, consider testing again 1 to 2 days after your initial test. |
If you are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 but have not confirmed positivity through a test, please isolate and remain off campus for 5 days, beginning from the day after the symptoms began. The day you started exhibiting symptoms is considered your Day 0. For example, if your symptoms started on May 1 (Day 0), please refrain from coming to campus for 5 days. You will be eligible to return to campus on May 7 (Day 6) if the below conditions are met:
- You have not had a fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or greater) in the last 24-hours (Day 5 and Day 6),
- You are not taking fever-reducing medication to manage a fever,
- If you had COVID-19 symptoms, they have improved, and
- If it is Day 6 – Day 10 of your isolation timeline, you agree to wear a well-fitting face mask while on campus for Days 6 – 10.
It is preferred that the isolation period be extended to 10 days if:
- Symptoms have not improved, and/or
- You are unwilling to voluntarily wear a well-fitting face mask at all times while on campus for the duration of the 10-day isolation timeline.
