Can I visit Transition University before applying?

You can sign up for a university campus tour. TU does not currently offer individual program tours. Contact TransitionUniversity@tamusa.edu to ask about open houses and upcoming opportunities to visit.

How long does the program last?

Transition University is a two-year program.

When can I apply, and when is the deadline?

Visit the TU admissions page for application information. Contact the TU team to confirm the next available cohort and application deadline.

What are the costs each semester for TU students?

TU currently does not charge a program fee. Students are responsible for university tuition and applicable fees, which vary by semester, residency status, and enrollment.

Use the Tuition and Fees Calculator to estimate your costs. Housing, meal plans, and certain course fees are additional. Contact TU or Student Business Services for help confirming your costs.

Can I receive financial aid, and who can help me?

Eligible TU students may qualify for Federal Pell Grants, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants. Complete the FAFSA and contact A&M–San Antonio’s Financial Aid office for help determining your eligibility. Funding is not guaranteed. Visit TU’s financial aid information to learn more.

Can my TU courses transfer to another college or university?

TU courses are audited and do not transfer to another institution.

Do I have to live on campus?

No. Living on campus is optional. Contact TU and University Housing about availability, costs, and how to apply.

Where can I learn about other inclusive college programs?

Think College provides information about college opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities, including resources to help you explore and compare programs.

What will I earn when I complete TU?

After completing the program requirements, you will earn a University Career Experience Credential (UCEC). TU is a credential program rather than an academic degree program.

Do I need Vocational Rehabilitation services?

TU encourages students to apply for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services through the Texas Workforce Commission. Depending on eligibility, these services may help with career preparation and tuition assistance.

Will working affect my Medicaid or Medicare?

Ask a qualified benefits counselor to review your situation before making decisions about work and benefits. The answer depends on your benefits and circumstances.

What transportation resources can help me get to campus or an internship?

You can ride for FREE with the VIA Bus and VIA Link services by simply showing your Student ID. Please see VIA's Upass website for more info.
