Career Closet Distribution Guidelines

At the Mays Center, we want all students to succeed regardless of their financial circumstances. To assist our Jaguars, the Career Closet is available to provide professional clothing to students needing proper business attire. The closet is located in the Science & Technology Building in Suite 111. Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 am-5:00 pm.

  • Only active Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-SA) students and recent graduates (up to 2 consecutive semesters after graduation) may obtain clothing items from the Career Closet. Both walk-ins and appointments are acceptable when utilizing the clothes closet. In addition, provide complete contact information, their major, their expected graduation date, and the reason for using the clothing items.
  • Items are available for distribution for the following reasons:
    • job interviews
    • career fairs and other events sponsored by the Mays Center at which professional dress is expected
    • graduate school interviews.

Clothing items are not available for functions such as but not limited to classroom presentations, organizational meetings, weddings, funerals, or any private social function.

  • Each student is entitled to one (1) professional suit (matching pants and jacket) and six (6) business professional/casual clothing items. These items can include the following:
    • Jacket
    • Shirt
    • Blouse
    • Pants
    • Skirt
    • Tie
    • Belt
    • Scarf
    • Shoes
  • If a student wants another suit, they may bring a suit as part of the Trade-Up Program. In this case, the student will obtain a suit (pants and jacket) and exchange it for another suit. The suit must be in an acceptable condition, including no stains, and cleaned.
  • The clothes closet is open year-round when classes are in session, including fall, spring, and summer semesters.
  • The closet may be closed during major events such as career fairs, commencement, etc.
  • The Mays Center attempts to pre-screen clothing, but all clothing is accepted on an "as is" basis.
  • The student is responsible for selecting clothes and determining proper fit and suitability before accepting the clothes. All clothes must be tried on in the closet or nearby restroom.
  • The clothing supply relies upon donations; therefore, the Mays Center makes no guarantee to have the size or type of clothing available that the student is requesting.
  • If the student does not find clothing at the time, they are welcome to come back again to check out any new arrivals which may have been donated throughout the year.
  • A student must come in to use the closet; staff will not check for the availability of items by phone or email. A student may hold the item(s) until the end of the business day (5:00 pm). If the clothing is not retrieved by that time, it will be placed back in the closet.
  • A student must leave the closet in the same condition they found. The student is responsible for hanging up all clothes that they tried on and returning them to the correct spot.
  • Students are responsible for reading and following the guidelines. The Mays Center reserves the right to prohibit a student from future closet use if any policy is not followed.
