Crisis appointments are available for students experiencing a safety concern or a recent traumatic event (e.g., suicidal thoughts, thoughts of harming others, the recent death of someone close, sexual or physical assault, etc.).

To schedule a crisis/urgent appointment, please call (210) 784-1331 or walk into the Student Counseling Center in Madla 120, Monday through Friday between 8 A.M. - 12 P.M. and 1 P.M. - 5 P.M.  Outside of normal business hours, our main phone number functions as an after-hours crisis line.

What to do if I am thinking about suicide:  

  • To speak with a licensed mental health clinician, call or visit the Student Counseling Center at 210-784-1331 (available 24/7)

  • Reach out to a loved one and ask for help; stay with a friend, 
  • Make sure your environment is safe and remains safe: remove or lock up any weapons, razors, knives, and any nonprescription drugs;  
  • Avoid alcohol and other substances, and 
  • Avoid driving when possible. 
  • If you are currently in immediate danger of seriously harming or killing yourself, call 911 or visit the nearest hospital.

Sexual Assault/Harrassment Support

Student Counseling Center (SCC) staff stand with survivors of sexual assault and harassment. SCC created a Violence Prevention and Support Card, which includes confidential and reporting resources. Click here to download your Resource Card now.  

Students seeking emotional support as a result of recently experiencing sexual assault and harassment can utilize the confidential services provided by the Student Counseling Center by calling (210) 784-1331 to be scheduled for a same-day appointment with a licensed clinician. 

The Student Counseling Center is the only on-campus option for confidential reporting.  University staff and faculty, other than Student Counseling Center staff, have an obligation to report incidents of sexual misconduct to the Title IX Coordinator so that the college can fulfill its duty to investigate the incident and prevent it from recurring. As a student, you have the option to report sexual assault to campus authorities. Reporting of sexual assaults can be made to any of the following offices: 

  • University Police, (210) 784-1900 
  • Off-Campus Police- dial 911 

Local Mental Health Authorities

Texas Health and Human Services contracts with 37 local mental health authorities (LMHA) and two local behavioral health authorities to deliver various mental health services in communities across Texas. These agencies provide crisis hotlines and crisis intervention services for their service areas. If you want to find the LMHA for any county in the state, please click here.
