Use your benefits

Step 1. Become a Jaguar

Before using your VA education benefits, you must first be officially admitted to Texas A&M University–San Antonio. Make sure your admission application is complete and all required documents have been submitted.

Step 2. Register for courses

If you are a new student, you may be required to complete New Student Orientation (NSO) before you can register. Check your student portal or contact the Office of Admissions for more information.

For Federal benefits, ensure that the courses you are registering for are required for your degree plan. If course(s) reflect on your DegreeWorks as "Additional" then the VA will only pay for courses required on your degree plan.

Students must be registered for classes before requesting benefits. If paperwork is submitted before the student is registered for classes, then the office will reject the paperwork and will result in a required resubmission.

Step 3. Collect all required paperwork for your benefit

Each Federal benefit has specific documentation requirements. Use our Federal Benefits Checklist to make sure you have everything you need—this may include your Certificate of Eligibility, military service documents, and other supporting forms.
