About the Education Field Residency Program

Connect classroom learning with teaching experience through Education Field Residency coursework at Texas A&M University–San Antonio. These courses support teacher preparation through classroom observation, reflection, participation, and clinical teaching in school settings.

Education Field Residency is a component of teacher preparation rather than a standalone degree. Participation in field experience and residency courses requires admission to the teacher preparation program and completion of applicable prerequisites. Students should consult their advisor about placement requirements and certification milestones.

Career Opportunities

Combined with the appropriate degree and teacher certification, Education Field Residency coursework supports preparation for roles such as:

  • Elementary School Teacher
  • Middle School Teacher
  • High School Teacher
  • Subject-Area Classroom Teacher

Key Distinctions

Field-Based Experience I and II each provide 50 hours of classroom experience before clinical teaching. Additional offerings include a one-semester clinical teaching experience and a two-semester Enhanced Yearlong Teacher Residency conducted with approved district partners. These experiences give teacher candidates opportunities to demonstrate teaching knowledge and skills in school environments. Selected clinical teaching courses also include a subject-specific portfolio assessment.
